WWE RAW has moved to a two-hour format for the rest of the year. They signed a short-term contract with the USA Network to remain on the channel until their Netflix deal picks up. Meanwhile, many fans had a question about what the future will bring.
PW Insider has now reported that WWE has plans to change RAW back to a three-hour show in January when they move to Netflix. That is not all, because SmackDown will also get a three-hour treatment on Friday nights.
SmackDown has never been a three-hour show on a regular basis, so this is certainly new for the blue brand. It is old hat for USA Network, as they hosted RAW for a very long time as a three-hour show. This will give fans a late night on Fridays as well.
Friday Night SmackDown is currently airing on FOX in the United States but will shift to the USA Network in October 2024. This move is part of a five-year, $1.4 billion deal, which also includes four annual primetime specials on NBC.
In a separate ten-year deal, Netflix secured exclusive global broadcast rights to Monday Night RAW, starting in 2025. This agreement, valued at $5 billion, will make Netflix the only broadcaster of RAW worldwide.
WWE will also get to highlight even more stories and Superstars with their three-hour format. So, fans can look forward to seeing even more action and drama as the new year kicks in. Keep checking back with us here at Ringside News for more.
