Kris Statlander, one of the experienced stars in AEW’s women’s division, started working with manager Stokely Hathaway after she turned against Willow Nightingale at AEW Double or Nothing. However, their partnership recently ended, and Statlander has now confirmed the reasons behind their split.
Kris Statlander’s partnership with Stokely Hathaway had been a big part of AEW shows for a long time now, as it truly fleshed out Statlander’s character in a big way. However, during the October 4th episode of AEW Rampage, Statlander announced that she was going solo and was confronted by Mercedes Mone and Kamille. Before this, Statlander had been out of action for a while following her match against Willow Nightingale at All Out.
As previously reported, the partnership between Statlander and Hathaway officially came to an end, and Statlander will be challenging Mercedes Mone for the TBS Championship soon enough.
While speaking on Ring the Belle, Kris Statlander was asked for the reason behind her split with Stokely Hathaway. She explained that they initially came together with a shared goal of taking down Willow, which they achieved. However, beyond that goal, they didn’t have any further plans or objectives. Once their mission was completed, it felt like a mutual agreement to part ways, with an understanding that they might cross paths again in the future.
Things took a turn when Hathaway, without Statlander’s consent, put her hard-earned title shot on the line in an attempt to pass a Spanish quiz and he ultimately failed at that. This led to her decision to cut ties with him, as she felt it was unacceptable for him to risk the opportunities she had rightfully earned.
“We had a common goal in destroying Willow, and I think we accomplished that. But I think we just didn’t have any other goals after that. The goal was to take care of her, and after that, we just kind of decided, you know, the job’s done. It was kind of like a handshake—’you helped me, I helped you, and maybe we’ll see if our paths cross in the future or something.’ Then, you know, he tried to pass a Spanish quiz and put my title shot on the line, the one I rightfully won, without me knowing, and lost it. So, not my fault. I just had to give him the boot for that because how dare you take my opportunities away from me.”
Kris Statlander is currently a babyface and is clearly building a lot of momentum in her feud with Mercedes Mone. Nonetheless, only time will tell if Statlander and Stokely Hathaway will ever reunite again, as it might not happen anytime soon.
