Bryan Danielson previously stated that his next loss would mark the end of his full-time wrestling career, and that loss came at AEW WrestleDream. During his current absence, updates on his health have surfaced, revealing that he’s focusing on recovery and that he’s trying to avoid neck surgery.
AEW WrestleDream 2024 ended in a shocking way for Bryan Danielson as he ended up losing the AEW World Championship to Jon Moxley. Afterwards, the Blackpool Combat Club viciously beat down The American Dragon and he left the arena on the stretcher, with his future uncertain.
Before WrestleDream, Bryan Danielson shared in an interview that he began losing strength in his legs during his match with Kazuchika Okada on AEW Dynamite’s fifth anniversary on October 2, 2024. He had already mentioned that he would need neck surgery to address his ongoing issues.
While speaking on Fightful Select’s Q&A podcast, Sean Ross Sapp was asked Danielson has had his neck surgery. Sapp reported that Bryan Danielson is aiming to avoid surgery by trying out stem cell treatments for his long-standing neck issues. Toward the end of his recent AEW appearances, it was clear he was very banged up. The hope now is that he can rehab the injury successfully and continue without needing surgery.
“The latest word from that situation is that Bryan Danielson was hoping to avoid surgery and would try out some stem cell treatments. His neck has been messed up for quite some time, but towards the end of his AEW run he wasn’t hiding how banged up he was. The hope is that he can avoid surgery and just rehab the injury.”
Fightful Select previously reported that there aren’t any firm plans for Bryan Danielson to return to wrestling. However, the possibility isn’t entirely ruled out, as he’s currently focused on his family and dealing with his neck issues. Whether he will go through with neck surgery is still uncertain, but if he does, it could keep him out of action for a long time and that’s something fans are hoping won’t happen.
