Vince McMahon was hit with serious allegations of sexual trafficking and misconduct from former WWE employee Janel Grant and this led to Vince McMahon resigning from WWE and TKO Holdings. Interestingly enough, Mark Shapiro has now revealed McMahon’s feelings about WWE’s current direction after recently meeting him.
Following his exit, Vince McMahon would sell several of his TKO stocks. While speaking in an interview with CNBC Sports, TKO COO Mark Shapiro talked about Vince McMahon’s current role in WWE. He explained that McMahon is no longer involved in the company’s daily decisions.
Shapiro mentioned that he had breakfast with McMahon a few weeks ago to check in, and it was their first meeting in a long time. He said McMahon was very professional and friendly, but he is no longer part of the business. McMahon doesn’t make decisions, isn’t on the board, and isn’t consulted by WWE. Shapiro also mentioned that McMahon is dealing with some legal issues and wants privacy while working through them.
Shapiro reassured that TKO and WWE will keep growing and expanding. McMahon still owns shares in the company, but not as many as he did before. When asked if McMahon supports WWE’s direction, Shapiro said McMahon is positive about it, though he wasn’t specifically asking for his opinion.
“I had breakfast with him a few weeks ago just to check-in. Been a long time. Haven’t heard from him at all. Obviously, the series on Nettlix came out. I wanted to see kind of where he was. By the way, he couldn’t have been more cooperative. He couldn’t have been nicer. I mean, he was a total pro at breakfast, if you will. It’s a one-on-one get-together, but he’s out of the business entirely. He doesn’t make decisions. He’s not on the board. He doesn’t opine. We don’t consult him. He’s got some litigation that he’s working through, and frankly, he wants the privacy and the time to work through it, which is great because, in the meantime, we’re going to keep building TKO and WWE, and expanding the horizon, expanding the opportunities. And by the way, he’s still a shareholder, not the shareholder he once was, but he’s still a shareholder.
Couldn’t have been more positive[about WWE’s current direction], but I wasn’t asking for his opinion.”
It was previously reported that Vince McMahon is working on creating a new entertainment company that will focus on film and television projects and that’s what he is focused on at the moment. Regardless, McMahon will never have anything to do with WWE and that’s unlikely to change anytime soon.
