Austin Theory Addresses John Cena Burying Him in Scathing Promo During WWE RAW

Austin Theory is steadily building his reputation as one of WWE’s up-and-coming talents, showcasing his skills on television each week. He was involved in a long-standing program with John Cena last year, which featured John Cena burying him in a promo and now Theory has finally addressed the same.

The United States Champion defeated John Cena at WrestleMania 39 back in 2023 and this ended up shocking fans as they believed there was no way Theory was going to win. Prior to that, John Cena and Austin Theory engaged in a promo battle on Monday Night RAW.

The promo on Monday Night RAW was largely a one-sided beatdown on the mic, as John Cena verbally decimated Austin Theory in the promo and ended up setting up their match at the Show of Shows. Needless to say, fans loved every bit of it. There were also quite a few people who believed that John Cena essentially buried Theory with that promo.

While speaking in an interview with Chris Van Vliet on INSIGHT, Austin Theory talked about his promo with John Cena. He said that after watching it again, he thinks Cena was just playing his character on television.

Theory explained that it’s hard to know exactly what Cena meant, but he believes Cena was showing a side of him that isn’t really who he is. He said he understands what Cena was trying to do and thinks people can see that too.

“I think for me, because I’ve watched it back, and I’ve seen it in some of the things he said and stuff. And I just think it’s the character. I think he just wants to see me and it’s hard for me to just say exactly what he means. I kind of see where it is and if people can, kind of pick up on what I’m trying to say, but I think he just sees more of who I really am being displayed in a different way.”

John Cena even personally told Austin Theory that he didn’t believe in him before the scathing promo. Regardless, Theory has changed a lot since then but some fan will always feel that Cena was far too harsh on Austin Theory.
