Samantha Irvin’s sudden departure from WWE before a recent episode of Monday Night RAW caught the wrestling community off guard. She mentioned that she never really enjoyed being an announcer in WWE, which sparked some negative reactions. In response to the backlash she faced, Ricochet has now revealed a big reason for the backlash.
Samantha Irvin recently admitted that she never liked announcing in WWE and that she wanted to do more in the company, such as managing or becoming the General Manager for a brand.
“I don’t like announcing. I’m serious! Announcing was only supposed to be my way in. I wanted to manage, maybe even become general manager one day. But WWE saw no other future for me besides announcer. I love watching the action, but I don’t love being an announcer.”
Samantha Irvin’s remarks about not enjoying her role as an announcer in WWE upset a lot of fans. Some criticized her for speaking out against WWE and even called her pathetic. Many people also speculated that she didn’t like wrestling at all, which led to more negative reactions. Irvin later clarified her position, stating that she loves WWE and wrestling in general, but just didn’t enjoy her role as an announcer. Irvin’s honest comments about her feelings caused some fans to react negatively, thinking she was ungrateful to WWE for the chance to be an announcer.
While speaking on the Insight podcast, Ricochet gave another reason for the harsh comments online. He said that Irvin’s choice to leave her job broke with tradition. He noted how long famous announcers like Howard Finkel and Lillian Garcia worked in their roles, and that Justin Roberts is still announcing. Irvin was only an announcer for four years before she decided it wasn’t for her.
“I feel like she broke tradition. That’s why people are kind of upset. Because, again, how long was Fink doing it? How long did Lillian do it? Justin Roberts still doing it. The fact that she only did for four years and then she found out this isn’t what I was born to do.”
Ricochet also pointed out that Irvin’s decision is different from many wrestlers who have stayed in the business for a long time, like Rey Mysterio and AJ Styles. He explained that fans often want the things they love to last forever, and when someone they admire leaves, it can be disappointing for them.
“Look at Rey Mysterio and AJ Styles, because they’ve been doing it for so long, and they’re still in it, they’re still doing that. So I think especially when wrestling fans find something that makes them feel good and makes what they like watching better, they just want it forever. I watch One Piece. It’s on 1,100 episodes. I want more episodes, I don’t want it to stop. I understand. Again, I feel like she broke wrestling tradition in a way by just stepping away. But you can’t blame somebody.”
We have also reported that many in WWE were upset over Samantha Irvin’s comments following her departure. Since she was no longer with the company, they couldn’t force her to remove them.
Samantha Irvin’s decision to leave WWE was something she had been contemplating for a very long time, as she ultimately wants to focus on her music career now. Nonetheless, her supporters want her to succeed no matter what and Irvin couldn’t care less what her haters think of her in the end.
