The world shut down to a great extent due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but pro wrestling remained an essential business. WWE and AEW both continued their operations in Florida during that entire time, putting on shows without any crowd, or a limited live audience of other pro wrestlers or trainees. This was a time that Becky Lynch skipped, but it was also intentional.
While speaking to the Pivot podcast, Seth Rollins was asked about his wife, Becky Lynch’s pregnancy. The Man left WWE television to have her baby during the pandemic, and the timing of having a pandemic baby for the two just came at a perfect opportunity, because Becky Lynch had decided she didn’t want to perform without a crowd.
It was on Stone Cold Day when Becky Lynch first realized that performing during the pandemic wasn’t for her. That beer bash in the ring was supposed to be epic, but it fell flat without any fans to enjoy it with them.
“Stone Cold and Becky were in the ring and they were having a beer bash and acting like they were having a great time, but there was nobody where. It was so bad if you go back and watch it. Becky was like ‘I don’t wanna do this for however long we’re gonna be doing this,’ and we talked about having a kid, then I was like, ‘well if you don’t wanna do this we could be here for six months, seven months, eight months, nine — we thought it was gonna be a year and a half, but either way. You know, that was the perfect time.”
It was also made very clear that “talking didn’t make the baby,” but the timing was perfect to bring baby Roux into the world. Becky Lynch then took some time, and then she presented Asuka with the title as she won the Money in the Bank contract.
Becky Lynch is currently a free agent, so she can do whatever she wants. Still, a number of fans are expecting to see her back in WWE eventually. That being said, she’s enjoying her time at home while she can.
In the meantime, Seth Rollins is going strong in WWE. He just beat Bronson Reed in a colossal match at WWE Crown Jewel 2024. Hopefully, the world isn’t shut down in another global pandemic situation again, but if it does, at least WWE has a game plan.
