AEW International Champion Konosuke Takeshita is bringing the action to NJPW as he prepares to defend his title against TJP at NJPW Fighting Spirit Unleashed on November 8. This first-time showdown between Takeshita and TJP was announced following NJPW Power Struggle on November 4, and fans are buzzing about the clash of power and technical skill.

In the official show preview, it was revealed that Takeshita issued an open challenge online, prompting his return to NJPW’s iconic cerulean blue mat since competing in the G1 Climax. His opponent, TJP of the United Empire’s Catch 2/2, steps into the match with his sights set on claiming International gold and proving the United Empire’s strength on a global stage.

The match holds additional intrigue due to Takeshita’s complicated history with the United Empire. Over the summer, he joined forces—albeit reluctantly—with United Empire members in AEW. However, recent events in AEW have severed any lingering ties, as Takeshita remains loyal to Don Callis and his faction, including Kyle Fletcher. In a surprising turn, Fletcher distanced himself from United Empire by attacking founder Will Ospreay, causing tension with his longtime Aussie Open partner, Mark Davis.

With United Empire’s internal dynamics in flux, TJP, who assumed leadership in April 2024 after Ospreay’s transition to AEW, is looking to establish dominance by claiming Takeshita’s championship. The bout promises to showcase intense physicality and strategic skill, with high stakes for both factions.

In other NJPW news, Power Struggle also saw some exciting developments. Kenny Omega’s return set off a confrontation with Gabe Kidd, building anticipation for a match at Wrestle Kingdom. Ricochet made a surprise appearance, taking on Zack Sabre Jr. and officially challenging him for the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship on January 5, 2025.

With all eyes on Fighting Spirit Unleashed, fans are eagerly awaiting Takeshita and TJP’s showdown. Will Takeshita maintain his grip on the AEW International Championship, or will TJP bring new glory to the United Empire?
