WWE Hall of Famer Rob Van Dam, famous for his unexpected appearances, surprised fans by showing up on the September 13th episode of SmackDown. He then followed it up with another unexpected appearance on NXT last week and he has now addressed the same.
During the October 29 edition of NXT, RVD told NXT General Manager Ava that he wanted to be part of the November 6th show at the 2300 Arena. Later, he returned during a fight between Wes Lee and Je’Von Evans and mentioned that he had an idea of what he wanted to do.
While speaking on 1 Of A Kind with RVD, Rob Van Dam talked about his time at WWE NXT and the WWE Performance Center. He said he had been there twice before, about ten years ago, and noticed it looked different this time, with more equipment and space than he remembered. He described the experience as positive, with a lot of respect shown to the legends, and he enjoyed seeing some of his old friends like Bubba Ray Dudley, Shawn Michaels, Terry Taylor, and William Regal.
“I’ve been there twice before, and it was a long time ago, ten years ago, and it did look a little different. They definitely had moved some stuff around, and if they had that many warehouses, then I didn’t realize it before, but a lot of that is theirs. It was really cool. It was just a good experience, everybody was grateful. Everyone’s happy and giving the legends a lot of love. So nothing terribly exciting, but also seeing a lot of my peers as well, and Bubba Ray Dudley, he was standing in the ring when I walked in one time to that area, and I slid in behind him to surprise him, and his calfs almost exploded in my face. I texted him and told him that [laughs], but his calves were huge and veins popping out. Looks like he’s been doing some toe raises, so good job, Bubba. Saw Shawn Michaels, saw Terry Taylor, yes I did [see William Regal].”
When asked about meeting NXT General Manager Ava, Rob Van Dam said she was friendly, like everyone else he met. He mentioned that people were happy to introduce themselves and made him feel welcome during his visit to NXT.
“She was cool. Everybody was cool. I was just kind of like an extra, popping in and being me, and they were all there, learning and doing….I met everybody, everyone was super cool. They all came up and go, ‘Hi, I’m Veronica, good to meet you.”
Nonetheless, fans are excited for RVD to compete during this week’s episode of NXT, so we’ll have to wait and see how the WWE Hall of Famer will fare in his first WWE match in a very long time.
