Rey Mysterio Addresses Never Turning Heel in WWE

Rey Mysterio is truly living legend in professional wrestling with countless accomplishments and he never forgot his roots, being such a big name in the lucha libre scene. He has remained a babyface for his entire career in WWE and he has now addressed never turning heel in WWE.

The Master of the 619 is universally beloved in the world of professional wrestling and it’s not hard to see why as his underdog character is simply without equal, as fans can’t help but root for him every time he steps foot inside the squared circle.

While speaking to Chris Van Vliet, Rey Mysterio was asked if he ever came close to turning heel in WWE and why it never happened. Mysterio remembered a time when he thought about the idea while working with Dominik Mystero. He mentioned that he had a quick conversation with Vince McMahon about maybe turning on his son and continuing that story.

However, when he asked some of his colleagues for their thoughts, they told him that he was seen as a classic good guy, like Ricky Steamboat, and that fans wouldn’t believe he could be a bad guy. Mysterio felt glad he listened to their advice because it turned out to be better for Dominik to play the heel in the storyline.

“I remember bringing it up one time when Dom and I were working together. I brought it up to Vince, and it was brief, like maybe I could turn on Dom, and we would continue with something along those lines. But getting feedback from some of my colleagues, they said, ‘Oh, you’re like the babyface who could never be a heel; you’re like Ricky Steamboat. Nobody could ever see you as a heel. I don’t think they would buy into it.’ I’m kind of glad that I listened to them and that they didn’t listen to me because the best thing that could have happened was for Dom to become the heel and be the evil one.“

Dominik Mysterio remains the ultimate heel for his father Rey Mysterio and fans are always looking forward to them revisiting their feud in the future. Rey Mysterio may never turn heel in his career and perhaps that’s for the best.
