Marko Stunt, a familiar face in AEW and independent wrestling circuits, has officially hung up his boots. On November 1, the 27-year-old star shocked fans with his decision to retire, explaining it was time to prioritize his health and avoid long-term damage from years in the ring.
Speaking with Pluggo of Love Wrestling, Stunt opened up about his struggle to stay in the game. “So, it’s something that I’ve been trying to avoid for a while,” he admitted. “I’ve been dealing with a lot of lower back issues, and I found out why now.”
After undergoing medical evaluations, doctors discovered his right hip was rotating inward, causing his tailbone to shift. This condition has led to persistent pain and left him with uneven leg lengths—a condition Stunt was aware of, but now it’s affecting his strength. “If I were to continue doing it… there is that possibility of being paralyzed. That was a wake-up call,” he revealed.
Stunt also shared a deeply personal reason for his choice—his family. “I’ve got a family now. Not everybody knows that… I’ve got a daughter,” he shared.
In recent years, Stunt’s focus has shifted, and he’s ready to embrace fatherhood and family life. “I’m excited to have a family, and to grow a family, and to focus on that as much as I can.”
Returning to AEW in July to face Jack Perry for the AEW TNT Championship was a highlight for Stunt. Although the thrill of wrestling hadn’t faded, his body quickly reminded him why he’d taken two years off. “I just had a match last week, and it was great… But, I woke up the next morning, and I felt it,” he said.
After consulting with doctors and family, Stunt concluded that stepping away was the best choice. “They were fully supportive,” he added, noting it was almost a “sigh of relief” for them.
Stunt’s wrestling journey, which saw him compete in AEW, GCW, and other indie promotions, may be ending, but his legacy as a beloved figure remains.
