Kenny Omega has been sidelined for months following a serious diagnosis of diverticulitis, a condition that can be life-threatening. This health setback has kept “The Cleaner” out of action and largely off television, save for his involvement in the Young Bucks EVP storyline. However, recent updates suggest Omega is nearing medical clearance, and he’s using this time away to reassess his career.

In a recent interview with New Japan Pro-Wrestling, Omega shared his perspective on his time away from the ring, seeing his diagnosis as a “blessing in disguise.” Reflecting on his past year, Omega acknowledged the weight he carries in AEW due to his status and influence. He also noted how NJPW’s Kazuchika Okada has been stepping up in his absence.

“I looked at that man as a monster, and I can’t lie, I was scared; I can’t face this guy as current Kenny Omega,” Omega admitted, referring to Okada. “Although getting sick in the way that I did set me back almost a year now, it’s almost a blessing in disguise, because it really allows you to assess things in a different way.”

The time off, Omega explained, is giving him the opportunity to return with a refreshed mindset and a clear headspace, ready to perform at his peak once he’s back. His comments also suggest that he’s laying the groundwork for an anticipated match with Okada. Sources close to Omega reveal he has been in discussions about his AEW return, and there’s speculation that a feud with “The Rainmaker” might be in the works.
