Goldberg’s status as a free agent after his WWE contract expired led fans to wonder if he would retire or have one last match. Those concerns were eventually brought to rest after Goldberg confirmed he would have a retirement match next year and now it appears WWE has yet to lock down Goldberg and GUNTHER’s match.

At the Bad Blood Premium Live Event, things heated up when WWE World Heavyweight Champion GUNTHER confronted Goldberg. Goldberg was watching in the audience with his family when GUNTHER began taunting him, calling him a “one-trick pony” to provoke him. Goldberg tried to respond, but security stepped in to keep him from entering the ring.

Goldberg made headlines today after he announced to the world that he will have his retirement match in 2025, which has led many people to speculate who would end up being his opponent.

While speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer talked about this status for Goldberg and GUNTHER’s matches. Meltzer noted that the match is definitely going to happen but it may not happen that soon as the belief is that Goldberg will need time to get ready for the bout.

Meltzer mentioned that when they set up the confrontation, he was told it wasn’t planned for WrestleMania. However, since it’s so far in advance, it is possible that WWE hasn’t fully decided when the match will happen.

“I know when they shot the angle, I was told it wasn’t going to be at Mania but those things, that many months in advanced, that may not have had it locked down when they will do it.”

Interestingly enough, Nic Nemeth actually wants GUNTHER to destroy Goldberg in a squash match next year. Nonetheless, we’ll have to wait and see when Goldberg and GUNTHER will face each other, as The Ring General already made it clear he is more than happy to teach Goldberg a lesson in the ring.
