After losing at WrestleMania 39, Cody Rhodes took on what he calls the “championship schedule.” This meant he worked at all the live events and made media appearances to represent WWE, even though he didn’t have a title. Now that he has the Undisputed WWE Title after WrestleMania 40, he is still keeping up this busy schedule, but being the champion has brought new chances and responsibilities.
While speaking to Cathy Kelley, Cody Rhodes shared that being a champion comes with some surprising parts. He explained that there’s a leadership role that he wasn’t fully prepared for. He has to attend corporate meetings and events where he feels a bit out of place, but he is expected to be involved and active.
Rhodes is excited about this new challenge. In the past, Cody struggled with leadership roles in wrestling and didn’t feel he did well, but he understands why that happened. Now, he sees this as a chance to reconnect with leadership. He’s been thinking about a future with WWE that goes beyond just wrestling, considering other roles he could take on within the company.
“There are some things that come with it that were surprising to me. It might sound cool, it might sound cheesy. There is an element of leadership involved that they don’t say, they just kind of plug you in. You’re attending corporate meetings and events that you would typically be out of your depth at, and you’re supposed to be there and be on. That’s something that has really excited me. In the past, I felt like when I had a leadership role in wrestling, I didn’t do well with it. I feel like I failed with it, but I knew why perhaps I failed with it. This has been an opportunity to plug back in. Maybe there is a future beyond the actual wrestling with WWE in a different setting. That’s something I’ve been thinking about lately.”
We will have to wait and see whether Cody Rhodes will end up taking a non-wrestling role in WWE in the future, as fans feel he is more than ready to take on such roles somewhere down the line.
