Adam Cole made his much-anticipated AEW return at AEW WrestleDream, and fans were eager to see him back in the ring. His in-ring return took place on this week’s Dynamite and while he did win the match, he drew outrage from fans for no-selling Seth Rollins’ moves.
Adam Cole was scheduled to face Buddy Matthews on AEW Dynamite after Matthews issued a challenge the previous week. The House of Black had even called Cole “fragile” due to his history of injuries. In the October 30 Dynamite opener, Cole returned to the ring to face Matthews but was understandably cautious, having been sidelined since September 2023.
At one point, the match almost stopped when Cole thought he might have re-injured his ankle. However, after Matthews taunted him, Cole decided to continue with the match with a renewed sense of passion. In a tough back-and-forth series of moves, the Panama City Playboy ultimately picked up the win over Matthews.
However, the match wasn’t without controversy as many fans took to Twitter and called out Adam Cole for the fact that he no-sold Seth Rollins turnbuckle powerbomb/Curb Stomp combination by kicking out at 1. Fans couldn’t believe Cole made Rollins’ devastating moves look weak and others called out Buddy Matthews for not performing the moves well at all.
“And he kicked out at 1? Wow the jealousy is real
🤣🤣🤣🤣 damn 120lbs Adam Cole kicked out of that.
From the kick how did I know it was gonna be Seth 😭😭
Kick out at 1? No wonder everyone except virgin nerds laugh at this company.
lol. I was watching and thought this is f****** sick. Buddy Matthew’s looks strong as f***. Then he kicked out by 1 and it just ruined the moment. So stupid.
And it’s just been buried by a midget
The fact he kicked out a 1 is pure disrespect to rollins and his finisher… things like this is why people s**** on AEW the bad selling is unreal“
It was evident Buddy Matthews performed the sequence of moves as a tribute to Seth Rollins, as he was once Rollins’ disciple back in 2020. Regardless, many fans are clearly furious over the fact that AEW insulted Seth Rollins by having Adam Cole kick out at 1 and we hope the company pays heed to the critique and improve their selling for moves.
What are your thoughts on Adam Cole’s no-sell of Rollins' tribute moves? Do you think it was a fair decision, or did AEW miss the mark? Please share your thoughts and feedback in the comment section below.
