A fascinating behind-the-scenes story has emerged, revealing that a completed Sami Zayn documentary never saw the light of day because Vince McMahon “hated it.”
During Zayn’s popular run with his conspiracy theorist gimmick, he teased fans with a documentary promising to uncover WWE’s hidden secrets. The former Intercontinental Champion was occasionally followed by a camera crew throughout his segments, and in April 2021, he even dropped a trailer, hyping the film. However, the full documentary was never released.
On a recent episode of the Wrestling Matt podcast, Matt Camp revealed that the project was finished, but it was ultimately nixed by McMahon.
“That documentary was made. That documentary never aired because Vince hated it,” Camp said. “He didn’t like how it was put together. He didn’t think it was very good.”
The decision to shelve the film came just before Zayn shifted into a new storyline with The Bloodline later that year, which went on to become one of WWE’s most successful narratives in recent memory.
Zayn’s fans were disappointed to never see the project, as many were invested in the “conspiracy” storyline and intrigued by the promised revelations. However, Zayn’s transition into The Bloodline propelled him to new heights, solidifying his status as one of WWE’s top stars.
While it’s unclear if the documentary will ever be released, the behind-the-scenes decision highlights McMahon’s hands-on approach and strict creative control over WWE programming.
