Cody Rhodes shared a deep and special bond with his father, Dusty Rhodes, who was much more than just a parent to him. Dusty was Cody’s mentor, friend, and role model, greatly influencing his career in wrestling. Despite their close connection, there was one nickname related to his father that Rhodes actually hated.
While Dusty Rhodes passed away in 2015, which was a devastating loss for Cody Rhodes and the whole wrestling community, Cody Rhodes has kept his father’s memory alive by honoring his legacy and impact through his own work in the industry.
While speaking on the Flagrant podcast, Cody Rhodes admitted that he hated the nickname “Dusty’s kids.” He explained that his father Dusty Rhodes trained Seth Rollins and helped him with promos as their coach at NXT.
Along with Seth Rollins, there were also Roman Reigns, Becky Lynch, Sami Zayn, and Kevin Owens. Cody Rhodes found the nickname odd because he is Dusty’s son, but he eventually got over it and shared his feelings about the nickname with them.
“My dad trained Seth and helped him with promos. He was their promo coach and character coach at NXT. So it was him, Roman, Becky, Sami, and Kevin Owens. They all had this name that I absolutely hated, which was ‘Dusty’s kids.’ I thought it was weird because I’m his son, you know? But I got over that after a while. I’ve told all of them that I hated it.”
Cody Rhodes finished the story that his father was never able to, as he is now the Undisputed WWE Champion. Regardless, The American Nightmare will always carry on his father’s legacy and that will never change no matter what.
