Cody Rhodes isn’t used to losing, because he even bet on himself in 2016 when he left WWE, only to return a few years later and make 15x more than he previously was. In the interim period, he took on a big role in AEW to up that value, but Rhodes doesn’t see his time as an executive in pro wrestling as the greatest success.

When AEW opened their doors, Tony Khan installed The Young Bucks, Kenny Omega, and Cody Rhodes as wrestlers who were also Executive Vice Presidents of the company. While Omega and the Young Bucks are still in those roles, Rhodes opted to leave the company and go back to WWE. That was certainly a learning experience for him.

While speaking to the Flagrant podcast, Cody Rhodes broke down his role as Executive Vice President at All Elite Wrestling. He also considers it a failing venture.

“I had the management role with my previous company. I failed at that — I would say I didn’t succeed, but I learned a lot from that failure. With WWE, if that’s something that comes up for me — would you like to do something behind the scenes — it’s certainly something I’m considering. Because I had a whole run at it before where I bombed — so I’m like, you know what? I think I can get this now. I think I can figure it out.”

The American Nightmare’s latest run in WWE has certainly been more influential than his previous outing. He not only finished his story, but he is still World Heavyweight Champion, but that is something that he isn’t looking to change any time soon.

Cody Rhodes then went on to say that his retirement is a long way off. He did admit that he might like to retire at 45-years-old, because he doesn’t want to be an old-man wrestler like his father, Dusty Rhodes, was. After all, The American Dream wrestled into his 60s.

Rhodes wouldn’t turn down an opportunity to take on a backstage role in WWE if that time comes. After all, he did learn a lot by failing at an EVP gig with AEW. We will have to see what the future holds.
