Getting released from WWE can have all sorts of effects on someone. For Matt Cardona, it only boosted his confidence as he bet on himself in a big way, because he’s still always ready for any challenge.
Since his WWE release in 2020, Matt Cardona has undergone a significant transformation on the independent wrestling scene. He has captured titles across multiple promotions, including GCW, NWA, and TNA; not to mention becoming a god in deathmatch wrestling. Despite frequent speculation from fans about a potential WWE return, and the fact that his wife Chelsea Green is doing great in WWE, it has yet to happen.
Matt Cardona recently took to X and he shared a clip where he discussed his approach to promos before matches on the independent circuit. He explained that his goal was to improve his mic skills and highlighted the personal growth he’s experienced in doing so. In a candid moment, Cardona claimed that if he ever found himself in a promo segment with The Rock on WWE Raw, he wouldn’t be nervous. Though unsure if he’d ever get the chance, Cardona expressed his readiness for such a moment.
“I always cut a promo before my matches on the indies. When I was in WWE, I could probably count on two hands how many times I had a real promo. For someone like me, I pretty much had to get everything on the script right, and I knew when I became Matt Cardona, I needed to work on talking. Being a heel, it’s so much easier to just grab the mic and cut a promo. These promoters aren’t gonna fucking yell at me. I always come out first, and I always cut a promo. Sometimes, it’s great, sometimes it’s not so great. Sometimes it sucks, but that’s how you learn. That’s how you grow, and now, this is gonna sound ridiculous, but if I was on Raw Monday and had to go face-to-face with The Rock, I would be confident and comfortable. Not saying I’d be as good as The Rock, that’s not what I’m saying, but I wouldn’t be nervous,” Cardona said.
Matt Cardona’s confidence and continued evolution as a performer reflect his commitment to refining his craft, regardless of where his wrestling career may take him next. He made it very clear that he is ready for a WWE return, although that hasn’t happened for him at this point.
In the past, Matt Cardona has spoken about his potential WWE, as he wants it to mean something. Many have returned to WWE only to resume their previous spot on the card, but he obviously wants more than that from his potential comeback.
Only time will tell what happens in the future, but Matt Cardona has certainly done a lot to raise his name value over the past four years since his release came in the name of pandemic budget cuts.
