The allegations from Janel Grant against Vince McMahon have severely hurt his reputation as a business leader. Claims of sex trafficking and sexual abuse have overshadowed McMahon’s legacy in the entertainment industry. In fact, Janel Grant’s spokesperson criticized WWE for not having a policy on sexual harassment.
Janel Grant accused Vince McMahon, WWE, and John Laurinaitis of serious misconduct, including sexual assault, emotional abuse, and sex trafficking, with allegations dating back to March 2019 and a lot of things have come to light after the lawsuit was made in January this year.
If you did not know, WWE does not have a sexual harassment policy listed on its corporate website. When people search for WWE’s Code of Business Conduct, they will discover a “not found” message.
Janel Grant’s spokesperson Kendra Barkoff Lamy issued a statement for Forbes regarding WWE’s lack of sexual harassment policy. She pointed out that WWE has been sued several times for not protecting employees from sexual misconduct by executives and for having a toxic work environment. Grant has accused Vince McMahon, the founder and former CEO, and WWE executive John Laurinaitis of sexually abusing her for years.
Lamy expressed anger that WWE claims to have improved its workplace but has no clear policies on sexual harassment or conduct available on its website. This means WWE employees don’t have guidelines on what behavior is acceptable or how to report abuse. Lamy stressed that this is a serious failure by WWE, and employees deserve a better and safer workplace.
“WWE has been sued many times for failing to protect employees from sexual misconduct by executives and toxic workplace culture, including by Janel Grant, who endured years of sexual abuse at the hands of founder and former WWE CEO Vince McMahon, WWE executive John Laurinaitis, and the WWE organization.
It is outrageous that WWE claims to have improved their workplace environment, yet they have no visible sexual harassment or workplace conduct policies listed on their website. This means WWE employees have no reference for appropriate behavior and no visible guidelines to report abuse. This is yet another example of WWE’s carelessness and failure to protect their employees, and we can only hope no one is harmed by this dangerous oversight. WWE employees deserve better.”
The federal lawsuit is currently on hold pending federal investigation and will later resume this year. In the meantime, Vince McMahon has been trying to fix his tarnished reputation, but the Netflix documentary did him no favors. Regardless, we’ll have to wait and see how the trafficking lawsuit will progress once the federal investigation concludes as there is no indication WWE will have a policy for sexual harassment anytime soon.
