WWE has their eye on many talented performers from all over the pro wrestling world. Joe Hendry’s recent successful appearances in NXT garnered him a lot of praise and attention. It was also easy to picture a scenario where that added attention would get him a TNA World Title run, but that didn’t come to pass as many predicted at Bound For Glory 2024.
During the BFG main event, Nic Nemeth retained the TNA World Title against Joe Hendry with the help of JBL. Seeing the former Dolph Ziggler keep his title was a surprise for some fans, but it seems that the company had planned this conclusion well in advance.
Sean Ross Sapp noted on Fightful Select that when he spoke to sources as far back as two weeks ago, they already were of the belief Joe Hendry wasn’t winning the title at TNA Bound For Glory 2024. So, the decision to have Nic Nemeth retain was not a last-minute one.
In the end, Nic Nemeth is still TNA World Champion, a title that he holds very well. Having a former WWE Word Champion holding that belt is nice, but Joe Hendry is also being built as a massive star that could help carry TNA Wrestling for some time to come.
We will have to see what happens with Joe Hendry’s next contract situation, but he is still under a deal with TNA until late 2025. In the meantime, he very well may make more appearance in NXT as part of their talent exchange program with TNA Wrestling, because Shawn Michaels has extended an invitation for Hendry to do so.
Joe Hendry has time to carry the TNA World Title before that time comes for his contract negotiations. After all, it wouldn’t be a huge surprise to see Joe Hendry land in WWE eventually at this rate.
