Jimmy Wang Yang was one of the highlights of the mid-card scene as he made a name for himself in WWE during the Ruthless Aggression era, but he isn’t with the company anymore. That being said, he is well aware of the current political scenario in the United States and it appears he slammed bigotry after a Donald Trump Speaker made a very tasteless joke about Puerto Rico.

Former President Donald Trump held a rally at Madison Square Garden in New York City, drawing a crowd of about 20,000 supporters just over a week before Election Day. Comedian Tony Hinchcliffe, who opened the rally, quickly caused controversy with comments that many found offensive.

Hinchcliffe, known for his podcast “Kill Tony,” made jokes about immigration and used gestures to suggest he didn’t truly welcome migrants. He also made comments about Latino families, stereotyping them by implying they have many children and are “taking over” the country.

“It’s wild and these Latinos love making babies too, just know that — they don’t do that. They come inside, just like they did to our country. Republicans are the party with a good sense of humor.”

The backlash grew when he referred to Puerto Rico as “a floating island of garbage.” His remarks quickly sparked anger online, adding more tension to Trump’s rally as the election draws near.

“There’s a lot going on. There’s literally a floating island of garbage in the middle of the ocean right now. I think it’s called Puerto Rico.”

Jimmy Wang Yang took to Twitter and slammed the speaker’s remarks, calling for those with racist, sexist, or anti-LGBTQ+ views to stay off his social media. He pointed out that politics has the benefit of revealing people’s true nature, adding hashtags to underline his stance and express support for Puerto Rico.

“If you’re a Racist, Sexist, or have an LGTBQ+phobia. Please get the F off of my timeline. One thing good about politics is that it shows your true colors. #wearenotfriends #PuertoRicolsBeautiful”

Many fans feel that such tasteless jokes simply do not belong in this day and age right now and it’s not hard to see why Jimmy Wang Yang had such a strong response to the joke. Regardless, we hope such insensitive jokes are never made again.
