Samantha Irvin, former WWE announcer, has finally broken her silence on the backlash surrounding her departure and her husband Ricochet’s move to AEW. In an update, Irvin took to social media to defend Ricochet from criticism, addressing fan negativity head-on and explaining the reasoning behind both their decisions to step away from WWE.
After announcing her departure from WWE, Irvin faced harsh comments from fans, with some unfairly blaming Ricochet for influencing her decision. Now, in a passionate response, Irvin has shut down the critics, clarifying the situation and sharing her pride for Ricochet’s recent career moves.
“When he was at WWE all he ever heard was that he was a jobber or he was in catering,” Irvin wrote. “Now he’s actually paid well to put on matches he likes. He is doing great and I’m really proud of him. Also, I went to the show last night [Collision] and the crowd was having fun. Not everyone wants to be famous doing something they don’t enjoy.”
Irvin also reflected on Ricochet’s transition from WWE to AEW, highlighting that while he didn’t always receive the recognition he deserved in WWE, he is now thriving in AEW by doing work he genuinely enjoys. “Not everyone wants to be famous doing something they don’t enjoy,” she added, suggesting that the couple values happiness over fame.
Irvin had previously mentioned that announcing was never her passion, and she had hoped to take on a managerial or leadership role within WWE. However, when WWE didn’t offer those opportunities, Ricochet encouraged her to leave. Irvin shared how Ricochet told her, “Honey, I’m a millionaire. You don’t have to go to work anymore if you don’t enjoy announcing.” This gave her the freedom to step away from wrestling and pursue her true passion—music.
The couple has also confirmed that Irvin won’t be joining AEW, as she plans to focus entirely on her music career moving forward. However, she made it clear that she will continue to support Ricochet and defend him against online negativity.
Irvin expressed gratitude for her time in WWE, saying she would miss watching the action from ringside, but she emphasized that her departure was the right decision. “I will miss having the best seat in the house and watching my colleagues kick ass,” she noted.
While Ricochet continues to build his career in AEW, Irvin’s sights are set on new ventures outside of the wrestling world. The couple’s journey reflects their shared commitment to prioritizing personal happiness and fulfillment over external expectations.
