AEW’s rumored plans to launch Shockwave on FOX might not be as close to reality as fans hoped. Though excitement has been building, with reports that AEW and FOX have been in talks for over a month, Dave Meltzer suggests we shouldn’t get ahead of ourselves.

During the latest Wrestling Observer Radio, Meltzer addressed the status of the potential deal, “No, nothing new. No. I have no sense that anything is imminent. I think if it was imminent, we would have an inkling of it, but not that it’s dead either.”

While AEW recently filed a trademark for AEW: Shockwave, and Swerve Strickland even teased AEW’s presence on FOX, Meltzer’s statement suggests things are far from finalized. Initially it was speculated that Shockwave could debut on Tuesdays or Thursdays, potentially reigniting the rivalry with WWE NXT, but it looks like we may need to wait longer to see if this materializes.

AEW’s ongoing relationship with Warner Bros. Discovery remains solid, but the FOX deal, which would see AEW programming replace the void left by WWE’s SmackDown, is still up in the air. With no formal announcement in sight, it’s unclear when or if this new show will come to life.

For now, AEW fans will need to sit tight and see what happens next. Expansion or not, the company continues to thrive on multiple platforms, keeping the door open for more TV deals in the future.
