AEW star Orange Cassidy has made it clear—he has no desire to become the face of AEW. In an emotional interview on Good Karma Wrestling, Cassidy expressed his reluctance to assume that role but acknowledged that recent events may leave him with no choice.

Cassidy’s comments come following a brutal segment on AEW Dynamite, where the Blackpool Combat Club assaulted his close friend Chuck Taylor. The attack culminated in Claudio Castagnoli stomping a steel chair wrapped around Taylor’s neck, right before Cassidy arrived to intervene. Reflecting on the incident, Cassidy told the podcast:

“No, and I don’t think that I am, nor should I be [the face of AEW]. I don’t want that. I never wanted that. I wanted to do what I had to do and go home… After what happened last night, it’s been made very clear to me that I have no choice in the situation.”

He further explained that despite his usual laid-back demeanor, the safety of those closest to him has now forced him into a fight:

“I have to fight now. I don’t want to, but if the people around me that I care about the most are going to be hurt, then I really have no choice in the matter.”

Cassidy opened up about the frustration of not arriving in time to stop Castagnoli’s vicious stomp on Taylor.

“At that very moment, it was—I was literally one second late. I slid into the ring right as Claudio was stomping the chair on his neck… I never thought I’d see him laid out again. He was injured before by Trent, and to see that again, it’s something I never thought I would have to see.”

Cassidy hinted that his true feelings on the matter would be revealed on next week’s Fright Night Dynamite, where he intends to address the attack in greater detail.

Cassidy’s appearance at Fright Night Dynamite—airing live from the Wolstein Center in Cleveland, Ohio—could signal a new chapter for the typically nonchalant star. Whether this event marks the beginning of a more intense side to Orange Cassidy remains to be seen, but it’s clear that recent events have pushed him out of his comfort zone.
