WWE Hall of Famer Hulk Hogan’s impact on professional wrestling is undeniable, as he embodies a larger-than-life persona. Recently, there were discussions about Chris Hemsworth taking on the role of The Hulkster in a biopic, but those plans have since been abandoned. Hogan has now stated that he believes the film could have been an Oscar contender.

Chris Hemsworth was cast to portray Hulk Hogan in an upcoming biopic about the WWE Hall of Famer’s career. Hemsworth had been significantly bulking up for the role, but fans became uncertain about the film’s future.

WWE Hall of Famer Eric Bischoff was set to be a producer, with Todd Phillips, Scott Silver, and John Pollono working as co-writers. However, concerns arose among fans when Chris Hemsworth admitted earlier last year that he was unclear about the current status of the biopic. Todd Phillips then confirmed that the biopic had been axed for good.

While speaking on the PBD Podcast, Hulk Hogan claimed that the planned movie with Chris Hemsworth had the potential to win an Oscar and featured an exceptional script. He mentioned that there was a contractual oversight, resulting in a delayed payment from Netflix. Hogan praised the script, noting that Scott Silver, the writer known for films like The Joker and Wolf of Wall Street, described it as his best work. Upon reading it, Hogan was impressed and recognized its quality. He reflected on his experiences with the writer over three years, discussing both the positive and negative aspects of wrestling.

Hogan found the script to be quite dark, which he felt could resonate with the public. He noted the significance of the film, mentioning that Hemsworth had never portrayed a real person before and that this role could lead to an Oscar nomination due to its powerful content. However, he expressed concern about being overshadowed by the film’s success, fearing that it might be the last thing people would remember him for. Ultimately, when Netflix missed a crucial business deadline, he took the opportunity to withdraw from the project.

“They kind of missed a beat in the contract, you know, so Netflix screwed up. Yeah, there was a payment that wasn’t placed at the right time. The script was amazing! Actually, Scott Silver, who wrote the script for The Joker, Wolf of Wall Street, and a bunch of other movies, said, ‘This is the best thing I’ve ever written.’ When I read it, I thought, ‘Oh my God, this is really good.’ At the time, I was in a space where I told him the positive stuff about wrestling and the negative stuff about wrestling. I spent about three years with this writer, going back and forth. When I read it, it was very, very dark, if that would be the right word, but it was probably what the public may want to see, you know? And when I read it, I thought, ‘Oh my gosh, if this thing comes out…’ There was talk that Chris Hemsworth had never played a real person before and he would probably win an Oscar and the movie too; this thing’s so powerful, very powerful. I said, ‘Oh, that’s great. Everybody’s going to do really great, but then I’m going to be left here, cheese stands alone, and that might be the last thing people remember me for.’ So I just was moving forward at the time, and when they, business-wise, missed a date, there was an option for me to pull out, and I pulled out.”

Regardless, fans can look forward to ‘Killing Gawker’ if nothing else, but some fans will continue to have hope that a proper Hulk Hogan biopic starring a major Hollywood actor will happen one day.
