Music in pro wrestling has received a new spotlight in recent memory, but that news came out of WWE. This included hiring for a new director in that department. Now we have an update on AEW’s current intentions for their music.
Amid growing speculation about the future of WWE’s music department, one key figure has committed to staying with All Elite Wrestling. According to Sean Ross Sapp on Fightful Select, AEW’s music producer Mikey Rukus has signed a new deal with the company, ensuring his continued involvement in AEW’s soundtracks.
Mikey Rukus, who has been with AEW since 2019, is responsible for creating some of the promotion’s most iconic entrance themes. Many fans have praised his ability to tell a wrestler’s story through music, something he was doing years before AEW opened their doors as he grinded on the indies as a music producer.
As rumors circulated about WWE’s search for fresh talent in their music department, it was confirmed that Rukus recently renewed his agreement with AEW, dashing any speculation about a possible move to WWE.
In addition to producing a wide array of AEW themes, Rukus has also crafted music for wrestlers outside the company. His work includes orchestral and 8-bit versions of AEW themes, showcasing his versatility and influence in the wrestling music scene. Rukus’ decision to remain with AEW solidifies his role as a key player in shaping the company’s distinct musical identity as it continues to grow.
We will have to see what happens next in this situation. As WWE is going through yet another musical changing of the guards, it appears that AEW is not going to lose their own version of Jim Johnston, with Mikey Rukus sticking around for years to come.
