Australian powerhouse Delta was making waves with her transition to WWE, generating a lot of excitement ahead of her debut on NXT. However, when she finally appeared on the October 22 episode of NXT, she did so under a new name: Zaria. This sudden change raised eyebrows among fans who had been anticipating Delta’s arrival under her original moniker. Now, new insights have emerged about why WWE opted for the name change.
According to Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful Select, the rebranding from Delta to Zaria was not unexpected for those within WWE. The issue boiled down to trademark difficulties. Securing the rights to the name Delta posed challenges, likely due to its common usage across various industries and brands, which made it difficult to lock down exclusive trademarks.
Sapp noted that WWE often encounters these challenges when trying to trademark names that overlap with well-known entities like airlines, geographical terms, or generic phrases. This made it more practical for WWE to move forward with a unique name that would avoid legal complications and allow them to fully control the character’s intellectual property.
“Zaria’s name change was one that didn’t surprise sources we spoke to within the brand, as difficulties with trademarking Delta would be expected by those we spoke to.”
With her dramatic debut in the final moments of NXT before Halloween Havoc, Zaria’s entrance has already left a lasting impact. Now, fans eagerly await her next move, with the character’s rebranding officially marking the start of a new chapter in WWE.
