Tony Schiavone Addresses Likelihood of Samantha Irvin Landing in AEW

Samantha Irvin’s abrupt departure from WWE sent shockwaves through the wrestling community. Announced just before Monday Night RAW this week, the news surprised many, especially since Irvin was at the height of her popularity. Her dynamic introductions for stars like GUNTHER and Chelsea Green made her a standout figure in WWE, leading many to wonder about her next move—though she has clarified she won’t be joining AEW alongside her fiancé, Ricochet.

Irvin’s decision was influenced by multiple personal and professional factors. WWE sources described her as well-liked and respected, but the challenge of balancing her WWE schedule with family commitments became overwhelming. Even though WWE’s road schedule has reduced in recent years, Irvin still had to spend significant time away from her daughter. Discussions about switching to a reduced schedule reportedly didn’t come to fruition, possibly motivating her resignation. With Ricochet’s departure from WWE complicating their family dynamic, the decision to leave seems to align with her desire to focus on her music career and explore new opportunities outside of wrestling.

On the “What Happened When” podcast, Tony Schiavone gave his thoughts on whether AEW would bring in Irvin. Schiavone doubted the possibility, praising AEW’s current ring announcers and emphasizing the unpredictable nature of wrestling:

“We already got the best ring announcer in the world with Justin Roberts. And Arkady Aura is a great ring announcer, who’s a great person and is doing a great job. [Samantha Irvin] ain’t coming here. I wouldn’t think. And of course, I’ve been wrong so many times, but why would we?”

Schiavone added that wrestling is always unpredictable, saying:

“I could show up tonight in Salt Lake City and there she could be.”

Ricochet, meanwhile, has dismissed speculation that Irvin might join AEW. He has repeatedly clarified on social media that Irvin has no plans to continue in wrestling, with her attention now turning toward her music career.

With Irvin’s sudden exit, WWE moved quickly to fill the gap by bringing back former announcer Lilian Garcia. However, it remains unclear if Garcia’s return will become permanent, as WWE has not announced any long-term plans for the role.
