Chris Jericho is undoubtedly a veteran in the pro wrestling industry, whose career has spanned more than 30 years and he truly loves AEW no matter what. He ended up winning the ROH World Championship during Dynamite this week and now it appears the reason behind his win has been revealed.

Chris Jericho won the Ring of Honor World Championship for the second time on during the October 23rd edition of AEW Dynamite, defeating Mark Briscoe in a ladder match with help from The Learning Tree. Unsurprisingly, this move saw a ton of backlash from fans as well.

While speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer talked about Chris Jericho’s title win and stated that Jericho’s title win could be related to AEW’s efforts to secure a TV deal for ROH.

Meltzer suggested that having Jericho as champion might help AEW in their negotiations for a deal. While AEW has extended its agreement with Warner Bros Discovery for shows like Dynamite and AEW Collision, ROH was not part of that deal.

“I think that if they are working on an ROH television deal, then it probably is beneficial for them to be champion, to try and close that deal.”

Tony Khan is reportedly still working to secure a separate television deal for the ROH brand. Nevertheless, we will have to wait and see how Chris Jericho will be booked as the ROH World Champion in the coming weeks, as fans aren’t really happy about this decision at all at the moment.
