Since launching in 2019, AEW has experienced considerable growth and success. However, in the past year, the company has encountered challenges and a bit of decline. Despite this, it still faces criticism from many fans, no matter what actions it takes. Recently, Daniel Garcia spoke out against retired wrestlers who seem to have built their careers on criticizing AEW.

AEW President Tony Khan, known for his wrestling passion, faced a Twitter controversy impacting his reputation earlier this year. There has been a lot of online discourse surrounding AEW as well, with many people with bad faith actively wanting AEW’s demise and claiming the company is doomed.

In a recent interview with Uproxx, Daniel Garcia addressed the issue of wrestling media, noting that while some outlets, like Busted Open, contribute positively to the industry, others focus on criticism of AEW for attention. He pointed out that many of these critics are retired wrestlers who seem to be trying to revive their careers by bashing AEW and those striving for success. Garcia expressed disappointment at this trend, emphasizing that it’s disheartening to witness, and he hopes to avoid a similar path in his own future.

“I do think that there is a lot of positive influences in the wrestling world when it comes to wrestling media. I think Busted Open is a net positive for wrestling. But then there’s other podcasts with people who are clearly just looking for clicks. Hating on AEW is a very popular thing and it gets people a lot of attention. And I feel like a lot of these things come from people who retired their jerseys. We never hung it in the rafters and we don’t even remember what their number was on their jerseys. A lot of those people are trying to get a new career off hating on AEW and hating on people who are trying to be successful. And it’s just, it’s sad to see, I hope I never have to go through that when I’m older.”

Even Tony Schiavone hit back at AEW’s detractors and called them idiots. Some fans attribute AEW’s current struggles to Tony Khan’s perceived lack of leadership skills, but Daniel Garcia disagrees and believes that this situation is unlikely to change in the near future.
