Since its launch in 2019, AEW has enjoyed significant growth and success, but over the past year, it has faced challenges and some decline. Despite this, the company continues to be criticized by many fans, regardless of what it does. Tony Schiavone recently addressed these critics and called them idiots.

AEW President Tony Khan, known for his wrestling passion, faced a Twitter controversy impacting his reputation earlier this year. There has been a lot of online discourse surrounding AEW as well, with many people with bad faith actively wanting AEW’s demise and claiming the company is doomed.

Tony Schiavone has been a stalwart in Tony Khan’s company since its inception, fulfilling roles as a commentator and occasional announcer, and he is always ready to defend the company no matter what.

While speaking on his What Happened When podcast, Tony Schiavone about the negativity and tribalism surrounding AEW, especially toward the Young Bucks. He stated that some of the criticism comes from fans who just want to be negative or stand out, and he even called them idiots, among other things. He also mentioned that bots might be part of the problem, with some people just trying to seem edgy by being critical.

While this negativity exists, Schiavone said it’s only a small group of people compared to the entire fanbase. He makes sure to ignore these opinions so they don’t affect his work or creativity in wrestling.

“That’s fans who are, number one, idiots, but number two, do you think a lot of that is real? There are a lot of bots out there. Not only bots, do you think they’re just trying to be… contrarian and edgy. That’s the nature of what we’ve got and that’s the business we’re in, so let’s move forward with that. I personally stay away from that stuff because I don’t want it to affect my work at all. I don’t want the few – and believe me, compared to the actual world, it’s the few – I don’t want the few, their negativity, nor their ideas on creative, to influence what I’m doing as far as my job is concerned.”

This isn’t even the first time Tony Schiavone put someone in his place for disrespecting him or AEW as he did so during the July 26th edition of Rampage. Some people believe Tony Khan’s weak leadership skills are the reason for AEW’s current decline, but Schiavone would think otherwise and that’s unlikely to change anytime soon.
