The AEW WrestleDream pay-per-view was held on October 12th at the Tacoma Dome in Tacoma, Washington and it was truly a memorable show from start to finish. However, the post-show media scrum was different from usual as it ended very abruptly and now further details about this change have been revealed.

As memorable as the show was, fans were in for a surprise when they saw that post-AEW WrestleDream media scrum was a little over 20 minutes long, which was a far cry from previous post-show media scrums, which were easily over an hour in length. AEW President Tony Khan was also not present at the event and the reason cited was so that Khan could go to the hospital with Bryan Danielson following Jon Moxley’s AEW World Title win and The Blackpool Combat Club’s brutal assault.

While speaking during Fightful Select’s Q&A podcast, Sean Ross Sapp was asked about the bizarre situation surrounding the media scrum and why it was so short. Sean Ross Sapp noted that earlier in the week, it was confirmed that Khan wouldn’t participate, but the reason for this change in plans wasn’t clear. It seemed to be a growing pains moment for the organization as they experimented with something new, and there had been discussions internally about wanting to shorten the length of these scrums for some time.

”It had been decided by earlier that week that Tony Khan wouldn’t be doing the scrum, but I’m not sure why outside of being told that the original plan had changed. It was definitely a growing pains situation trying something new. I know a few internally had wanted to limit the length of the post-show scrums for some time.’

While some fans might miss the lengthy post-show media scrums, most shows are likely glad about this change considering the fact that they already watched the pay-per-view before the media scrum, which is usually more than three hours long. Nonetheless, we’ll have to see how AEW will finalize this change for media scrums as we head towards Full Gaer in November.
