The Undertaker’s contributions to professional wrestling are unmatched, and one of his most significant legacies is his WrestleMania streak. However, the decision to end that streak is now regarded as one of the worst decisions in wrestling history.
The Undertaker’s legendary undefeated streak at WrestleMania started in 1991 when he defeated Jimmy Snuka. As the years went by, his wins over major stars like Jake Roberts, Sid, and Ric Flair added to the importance of The Streak, making it as significant as the World Championship match at WrestleMania. However, The Streak came to an end at WrestleMania 30 when Brock Lesnar defeated The Undertaker, a decision that still doesn’t sit well with many people.
The decision to end The Streak is still controversial ten years later, with many people in wrestling saying it should never have happened. Some believe that Brock Lesnar wasn’t the right person for this moment, as many who would have preferred Roman Reigns or Bray Wyatt.
Tommy Dreamer shared his strong opinion on this during an episode of Busted Open. He called Lesnar ending The Streak “the worst decision” in wrestling history. Dreamer felt that Lesnar didn’t need to break The Streak and suggested that if WWE had waited a few more years, it could have been a perfect ending for The Undertaker at a two-night WrestleMania as his final match.
Dreamer pointed out that The Streak was very popular and drew a lot of fans to WrestleMania. Dreamer believed The Undertaker still had some matches left in him and that the moment should have gone to someone who really needed it. He wished the decision had never happened, and thought The Undertaker should have only lost if it was truly his last match.
“I still to this day would say perhaps the worst decision in professional wrestling history. I just don’t think Brock needed at the time either.
The Streak was as popular and as a draw for WrestleMania. If you think about it, he had a few more matches left in him. When you went to two days, that was a guaranteed main event right there where you didn’t have to overthink what you had, who was going to be this next person to do it.
Never would have done it; Brock didn’t need it, you always do something like that for someone who needs it. Wish it never happened, the only way I think ‘Taker should have lost is if it was his last ever match.”
Even Jim Ross previously stated that The Undertaker’s WrestleMania streak should have continued. Regardless, The Phenom’s WrestleMania streak will forever remain a crucial aspect of WWE history and that will forever be his legacy, something that will never change despite all the controversy about how it ended.
