Former WWE commentator Jonathan Coachman, recognized for his many memorable moments with the company, has been absent from WWE for a while. Having worked closely with Vince McMahon during his tenure, Coachman has recently spoken out about the current work culture within WWE.

Jonathan Coachman made his WWE debut in 1999 as an interviewer, commentator, and presenter. In 2003, he transitioned into an authority figure role. After leaving WWE in 2008, he made a comeback in January 2018 as a commentator for Raw. However, he was replaced in September of that same year and has not been seen in WWE since.

Recently, Rolling Stone released an article titled “Inside the WWE Writer’s Room,” where six former writers shared their experiences of crafting weekly content for WWE. One writer revealed the management’s ongoing lack of confidence in the creative process, noting that this likely won’t change under Triple H’s leadership.

Jonathan Coachman took to Twitter and criticized the company’s work culture. The 51-year-old talked about the difficulties of long writing shifts and the overall setup, saying that the tiring environment makes people less creative and more complacent. He explained that the constant pressure to meet weekly deadlines and the frequent changes to the content create frustration and a cycle where hitting deadlines is more important than making great shows.

“Until there is a fundamental shift in philosophy writing for the @WWE will continue to be one of the best/worst jobs out there. Imagine having a deadline for a big project every week at your job. You work ALL week on it and then they rip up your work on Saturday. And they tell you instead of spending that Saturday you had to get on a 4-8 hour conference call. And every week is like groundhog day rinse and repeat. That leads to complacency and lack of creativity. They are more worried about the deadline at 8p on Mondays then writing a great show.”

WWE is a well-oiled machine and there are many cogs in the system but it’s certainly not for everyone as there is undoubtedly a ton of pressure when it comes to working in the company now. Therefore, many fans will likely agree with what Jonathan Coachman had to say.
