Michael Cole, WWE’s longtime commentator, has encountered many unique moments throughout his career, earning respect for his dedication over the years. This week, he was surprisingly absent from SmackDown, and the reason for his absence has now been revealed.

For decades, Michael Cole has been a constant presence in WWE as the lead announcer and the ‘voice of WWE.’ However, on the October 18th episode of Friday Night SmackDown, Cole missed a rare episode of the weekly show. It was announced during the broadcast that Cole was on a “special assignment,” though no specific details were given about what this involved. Wade Barrett filled in for Cole, joining Corey Graves on commentary for the evening.

While speaking to Sal Licata of WFAN recently, Michael Cole revealed that he would be on a 10-day vacation to Cozumel, Mexico for a 10-day family vacation, which is why he was absent from SmackDown this week. Therefore, it’s expected he will return for the show next week.

”I’m actually leaving tomorrow for Cozumel, Mexico, for a 10-day family vacation with the entire family and grandkids.”

This is certainly great news for fans of Michael Cole as many felt Cole more than deserves a break after giving so many years of his life to WWE without many breaks. Nonetheless, fans look forward to his return for next week’s SmackDown.
