Penta El Zero Miedo and Rey Fenix were integral parts of AEW programming since the company’s inception in 2019 and rumors suggested they were WWE-bound. That will not be happening anytime soon after Tony Khan added injury time to Rey Fenix’s contract and now Khan has been called out for being petty for the same.
There was speculation about Penta El Zero Miedo talking with WWE, with signs that he and Rey Fenix would only consider joining if they both got contracts. However, it was then confirmed that The Lucha Brothers are still under contract with AEW and can’t move to WWE at this time.
According to Dave Meltzer, Tony Khan added injury time to Rey Fenix’s contract, extending his tenure with the company by nearly a year. While Khan has made significant offers to encourage Fenix to remain with the organization, a new contract has not yet been agreed upon by Fenix and his team. This situation has stopped the Lucha Brothers from signing with WWE
While speaking on his Keepin’ It 100 Official podcast, Konnan criticized Tony Khan for being “petty” by adding injury time to Rey Fenix’s contract and thus not allowing the Lucha Brothers to leave the company for better opportunities,
“He’s already petty. He’s a self-check. Nothing that I do will ever change him. He is what he is.”
It was reported that Tony Khan added injury time to Rey Fenix’s contract in order to prevent other talent from taking advantage of him. Therefore, The Lucha Brothers will be sticking with AEW for a long time now, so it remains to be seen if Tony Khan will eventually bring them back to AEW television and at least use them.
