The future of Kevin Owens in WWE remains shrouded in uncertainty, despite ongoing reports suggesting he’s close to re-signing with the company.

In the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer provided an update on Owens’ contract status, shedding light on the conflicting stories circulating within the wrestling world.

Meltzer noted that multiple sources have indicated Owens may have already signed a new deal with WWE, but these reports remain unconfirmed. According to Meltzer, “There are reports that he’s close to signing or hasn’t signed and could go to AEW in January when his deal is up. I do know that multiple people in wrestling have said, dating back to Bash in Berlin, that they believed he’s signed, but it’s being kept quiet.”

Despite these claims, those closest to Owens have remained tight-lipped, and no official confirmation has been made. Meltzer also emphasized that Owens seems intent on keeping the situation under wraps: “Whatever the story is, he wants it secretive for now.”

Earlier this year, Owens confirmed in an interview with Metro UK that his current WWE contract is set to expire in early 2025. Since then, speculation has grown about whether he will stay with WWE or jump to AEW, a possibility that has kept fans on edge. WrestleVotes recently reported through a Backstage Pass Q&A session that Owens was “very close” to signing a new deal with WWE, but they could not confirm whether the contract had been finalized.

“I did reach out, talked to a couple of people. Didn’t get a definite one way or the other, didn’t get an absolutely the deal’s been signed, but did get a really positive response that it’s very close if not completed with a handshake. So I’d imagine that he’s around for the long term.”

With Owens’ contract situation still unclear, the uncertainty only fuels more speculation about where his future lies. Whether the rumors of a handshake agreement with WWE are true or Owens has a surprise move planned, fans will have to wait a little longer to know for sure.
