Bryan Danielson made a big impact when he defeated Swerve Strickland to win the AEW World Championship at the All In pay-per-view. However, his title reign ended at WrestleDream when Jon Moxley defeated him. Jim Ross has now explained why he chose to stay silent after the match.
AEW WrestleDream 2024 delivered a night full of intense action, with the spotlight on the main event where Bryan Danielson defended his AEW World Championship against Jon Moxley. In a fierce contest, Moxley managed to secure the win by making Danielson submit, becoming the new champion.
While speaking on Grilling JR, Jim Ross talked about why he stayed quiet during the AEW World Championship match between Jon Moxley and Bryan Danielson at AEW WrestleDream. After the match ended, Ross decided not to say anything because he felt the moment was powerful enough on its own. He explained that sometimes it’s better to let the scene play out without extra words.
Since Danielson had mentioned before that he would stop wrestling if he lost the title, Ross didn’t feel the need to add anything. He believed the pictures and sounds told the story perfectly. While some fans asked why he didn’t speak, Ross thought his silence made the moment stronger. He also noted how Excalibur got emotional, which showed how important the moment was.
“Sometimes it’s best for one to just lay out. At the end of the match, I was silent because I didn’t know what I needed to say to continue to sell the moment and the fact that Bryan Danielson, by his own word — he said the day he loses the title is the day he’s done — he obviously lost the title, so I take him above any wrestler I’ve ever met at his word. I didn’t know what to say. ‘Why didn’t you say something?’ Not my people, but just some fans. There was nothing I could add that would help it. The pictures and the natural sounds, in my opinion, told the story very well. That’s why I laid out at the very end. I know Excalibur got very emotional, he cried. I didn’t get that far into it but I appreciate his passion.”
Fightful Select previously reported that there are no definite plans for Danielson to return to wrestling, but the door isn’t closed but he will focus on his family first and foremost. It is to be added that Danielson will undergo an MRI soon in order to determine whether he will require neck surgery, so we’ll have to see what will become of The American Dragon in the end.
