The Undertaker, a legend in pro wrestling with over 30 years of dedication, continues to keep up with the current wrestling scene despite his retirement. Recently, he reflected on the differences between his era and today’s WWE and pro wrestling in general

The Undertaker has always been known for staying true to his character throughout his career. He consistently showed deep respect for the wrestling industry and took pride in being a professional wrestler.

While speaking on a recent episode of his Six Feet Under podcast, The Undertaker shared his thoughts on the significant changes between his era and today’s wrestling. He praised the incredible athleticism of modern wrestlers, comparing their moves to those seen in video games, but expressed concern that this focus on high-flying, athletic maneuvers might overshadow the core aspect of wrestling—storytelling.

He explained that while these impressive moves are exciting, they may come at a cost, especially regarding wrestlers’ health. He noted that in any match, the risk of something catastrophic happening is always present due to the physical nature of their performances. The Undertaker believes that while the evolution of wrestling is inevitable, there may need to be a shift back toward the storytelling aspect to maintain a balance.

“It is completely two different worlds. It’s crazy, because never in a million years can I imagine how athletic these guys are today. And I think because they are — I mean, they’re doing, I don’t know if it was the video games they played as kids. But they’re doing video game-type stuff in the ring. And I think it’s almost — sometimes it’s a curse. Because they’re so athletic and they rely so much on that aspect, that they forget the most important aspect of what we do which is storytell.

And I think — you know, I’ve mentioned it to different people high up. And you know, it’s like, ‘Hey, we can’t put the toothpaste back in the tube.’ But I think at some point, we’re going to have to. We have to figure out a way to get it back in there, because these guys — and I’m just thinking about their health, if nothing else. Because they, I tell people this all the time and people look at me like I’m crazy. But in any given wrestling match, any match. At some point in that match, you’re two inches away from something really catastrophic happening.”

This isn’t the only time The Undertaker criticized modern-day professional wrestling as he believes many pro wrestlers nowadays are fixated on light tubes. Nonetheless, The Phenom will never be afraid to speak his mind, especially when it comes to the business and he has no intention of changing that.
