Jon Moxley won the AEW World Title from Bryan Danielson at AEW WrestleDream 2024. This was a big booking decision as Tony Khan closed the book on Bryan’s in-ring career with that loss. During the October 16 AEW Dynamite, Moxley had a chance to make his first statement as champion.

Dynamite opened up this week with a video of Jon Moxley. He said that he will be responsible for things, and people don’t know anything about him. He has a dream about the land of opportunity in AEW, where people can be the best version of themselves they can be.

Jon Moxley said he hates what AEW has become, with out of control egos. He said that there is no need for dancing and partying when there is no need to do so. He will burn down the forest to plant a new one. He wants a better future, and he invited anyone to come with them that wants to, “if you don’t, run while you can, stand down while you can, get out of the way!”

He asked what is the new paradigm, “it is very simple, you work for me now.” That was quite an ominous message to kick off the show, but he certainly made a big statement.

In case you missed what went down, Jon Moxley earned his shot at the AEW World Title by defeating Darby Allin in a #1 contender match at Grand Slam 2024, setting up a match against Bryan Danielson at WrestleDream.

As the match continued at WrestleDream 2024, Bryan Danielson countered a Paradigm Shift with a Psycho Knee, but Moxley escaped the LaBell Lock and hit a DDT on the exposed concrete outside the ring. After further exchanges, Moxley locked in a chokehold that led to a referee stoppage, crowning him the new AEW World Champion. This loss ended Danielson’s title reign, as he had vowed to end his career if he lost. Wheeler Yuta and Darby Allin intervened to prevent further harm to Danielson, but Yuta turned on Allin, restraining him and joining Moxley in a disturbing display as they placed a plastic bag over Danielson’s head.
