Ethan Page has a lot of animosity towards CM Punk, especially after he ended up losing the NXT Championship to Trick Williams a couple of weeks ago on NXT television as Punk hit a GTS on him afterwards. Interestingly enough, Page channelled Punk’s infamous ‘Devil’ promo after NXT this week.

On the October 15th episode of WWE NXT, Ethan Page triumphed over Je’Von Evans and Wes Lee, earning an opportunity to challenge for the NXT Championship. He is set to face Trick Williams in a Devil’s Playground Match at NXT Halloween Havoc.

While speaking in an NXT exclusive after this huge win, Page stated that he didn’t like being called the number one contender, as he prefers being called champ or the face of the brand. He mentioned past sayings he used and plans to bring them back after the match. Page also made it clear that Trick Williams now sees him as a real threat while channelling CM Punk by directly using CM Punk’s infamous ‘Devil’ line from his time back in Ring of Honor.

Number one contender, huh? Not too fond of that. Everyone else in this locker room would die to be called number one contender. Not me. I was so used to being called champ or the champ or champion. Face of the brand, even. Hell, I was walking around saying ‘Era of Ego’ and ‘NX-Me.’ I plan on bringing all of those back to the repertoire, and it will happen. It’ll happen right after Devil’s Playground at Halloween Havoc. Some jackass once said, ‘The greatest trick the devil ever pulled was making you believe he didn’t exist.’ Tonight, I think I made Trick a believer. I promise you, the devil is real.”

CM Punk’s ‘Devil’ promo was a huge part of his feud with MJF on AEW television as well. Nonetheless, we’ll have to wait and see whether WWE will eventually plan a feud between The Second City Saint and Ethan Page, as that certainly seems to be the direction at the moment.
