The Godfather has been part of innumerable iconic moments during his time in WWE, particularly during the Attitude Era. This also has a lot to do with his WWE theme song ”Pimping Ain’t Easy” which enhanced his character in a big way, and now he has revealed how Ice-T ended up creating his theme song.
The WWE Hall of Famer had a penchant for cannabis and his Ho Train and fans loved him for that and his theme song definitely helped make him the complete package as well. While speaking to Chris Van Vliet, The Godfather was asked how Ice-T ended up composing his iconic WWE entrance theme.
The Godfather revealed that Ice-T was not his first choice, adding that Snoop Dogg suggested he consider Xzibit. When The Godfather reached out to Vince McMahon about his preference, Vince McMahon decided to go with Ice-T instead, stating that they would use “the pimp—pimp of all pimps.” Due to this, Ice-T created the iconic theme song that became synonymous with The Godfather’s character in WWE.
“He wasn’t my choice; mine was Xzibit. Nothing against Ice-T, but I talked to Snoop, and Snoop’s like, ‘Hey man, I got this new kid coming up, Xzibit and stuff. You should do his music.’ By the time I called Vince about it, Vince was like, ‘No, no, no, we’re doing the pimp—pimp of all pimps, Ice-T.’ So that was his choice. Pimpin’ Ain’t Easy, man.”
Many fans believe Ice-T was the perfect choice for his theme song, as “Pimping Ain’t Easy” is now closely associated with him. While it would have been interesting to see how Xzibit would have created a theme for him, he is very happy with Ice-T’s work, and he wouldn’t have it any other way.
