Former WWE announcer Jonathan Coachman recently sat down for an explosive interview on Chris Van Vliet’s “INSIGHT” podcast, where he gave his honest thoughts about his time in WWE, the current state of the company, and most notably, his predictions for John Cena’s retirement match. And if Coachman is right, wrestling fans are in for one epic showdown.

When discussing who Cena might face in his final match, Coachman was quick to name one of WWE’s all-time greats—Randy Orton. He explained that Orton is the perfect candidate to close out Cena’s storied career, considering the deep history between the two and their almost identical accomplishments in WWE. Coachman elaborated, saying, “I think it’s gonna be Randy Orton. I really do.”

Coachman went on to highlight their parallel careers, noting, “When you look at the fact that they’re both basically at the same number of World Championships, Randy has come from the kid I knew at 19 years old to where he is now. I’m so incredibly proud of what he’s done and the maturity that he’s had.”

Coachman’s perspective is rooted in personal experience. Having traveled extensively with both Cena and Orton, he has a unique insight into their careers and personalities. He remarked on Cena’s ability to meticulously plan every aspect of his career, saying, “Cena, I traveled with him for many, many months, and I know that if you watch, whether it was the two hours he sat down with you, whether the interview that he just did with Club Shay Shay, where I thought he was ridiculous for talking about Roman Reigns being the GOAT, but that’s what he believes and when he believes in something, that’s what he’s going to do. I believe that he’s got everything mapped out to the opponent for WrestleMania.”

But Coachman didn’t stop at predicting Cena’s last opponent. He also weighed in on the possibility of Cena capturing one more championship before hanging up his boots for good. In what might be a controversial take, Coachman believes Cena could walk away from WrestleMania not just as a legend, but as a champion. “I think he wins at WrestleMania,” Coachman said confidently.

Coachman also speculated about the possible motivations behind such a decision, even suggesting that WWE might want to ensure Cena surpasses Ric Flair’s world title record. Coachman touched on the legendary Flair’s recent ventures, noting, “The way Ric Flair has moved the last couple of years, people love him. I have a great affection for him. He every so often, ‘I’m going to retire. I’m going to retire. I’m going to retire.’ He’s now, what, nearly 80 years old and he’s still out there hawking weed and doing all these things.”

However, Coachman suggested WWE may not want Flair’s legacy to be the one that stands tall forever. He added, “I just don’t know if at the end of the day, and this is very petty if they do this, but I don’t know if the powers that be at WWE want Ric to be that name that’s always at the top of the mountain.”

As we inch closer to Cena’s final WWE chapter, Coachman’s predictions certainly fuel the excitement and anticipation around what could be one of the most monumental WrestleMania moments in recent history.
