Bobby Lashley was a big presence on WWE television until WrestleMania 40, after which he evetually left the company. There was anticipation around his potential debut in AEW, but he did not make an appearance at WrestleDream and now, the reason for this absence has now come to light.
It was reported that Bobby Lashley has signed a contract with AEW, so the timing of his debut was the biggest question on fans’ minds. Many expected him to debut at the WrestleDream pay-per-view but that didn’t happen.
During the WrestleDream pay-per-view, Swerve Strickland made his return and immediately confronted MVP and Shelton Benjamin. Swerve recognized MVP’s impact, especially as someone who opened doors for Black wrestlers like him. However, even with some problems with Prince Nana, Swerve made it clear that he is loyal to his team. He rejected MVP’s offer and told him to keep his business cards.
Shelton Benjamin then intervened, telling Swerve he had misunderstood what was happening and that he needed to make a decision. Tensions increased, and the two started shoving each other until officials stepped in to break it up and prevent things from escalating.
Ibou of WrestlePurists reports that the debut angle for Bobby Lashley was postponed to ensure it stands out. AEW believed they had enough significant storylines at WrestleDream and didn’t want Lashley’s debut to get lost in the shuffle.
”The Bobby Lashley debut angle was delayed to allow for it to stand out, as AEW felt they had enough big angles at WrestleDream and didn’t want it to be lost in the shuffle.”
It remains to be seen when Bobby Lashley will make his debut on AEW television since it’s clear his debut will be happening sooner rather than later, as Swerve Strickland’s storyline with MVP and Shelton Benjamin heats up. Fans will wait with bated breath for The Almighty’s debut, which will certainly change up the landscape in AEW.
