Bryan Danielson had made it clear on several occasions that the next time he lost a match, he would end his full-time in-ring career. That’s exactly what happened at AEW WrestleDream and now his immediate future has been revealed.

AEW WrestleDream 2024 delivered a night filled with unforgettable moments and exciting matches that captivated fans from start to finish. The main event featured Bryan Danielson defending his AEW World Championship against Jon Moxley in a highly anticipated showdown.

In the end, Jon Moxley emerged victorious, choking out The American Dragon to claim the title. After the match, the Blackpool Combat Club launched a vicious attack on Danielson, leading to him being taken out on a stretcher and ending the show on a very depressing note.

Fightful Select reports that Bryan Danielson’s full-time wrestling career is essentially “effectively over.” AEW hopes that Danielson will be able to compete “periodically” when he feels ready and also resume other responsibilities. There was speculation about whether his comments regarding his health were part of a storyline, but sources confirm that they were genuine. By the time of the match against Moxley, Danielson felt he might have overexerted himself in the matches leading up to the WrestleDream pay-per-view.

Regarding his contract status, Danielson has been working for AEW without an official deal for several months and currently has no non-wrestling contracts, making him a free agent without any commitments to AEW. A return to WWE is not anticipated, as Danielson “doesn’t envision” going back to WWE. Before any of this happens, Bryan Danielson plans to address his neck issues through surgery.

Therefore, we will have to wait and see how long Bryan Danielson will be absent from AEW television, as it is likely fans won’t see him for quite a while, especially after he undergoes neck surgery.
