At the 2024 WWE Money in the Bank event in Toronto, John Cena announced his retirement from professional wrestling. While his farewell tour is scheduled to start next year, it appears Jerry Lawler doesn’t think Cena should retire.
John Cena announced that he will be part of WWE RAW’s transition to Netflix. He also revealed that his final wrestling appearances will be at the Royal Rumble, Elimination Chamber, and WrestleMania in 2025. Rather than having one retirement match, Cena will go on a farewell tour in 2025, with several matches leading up to his in-ring retirement in December 2025.
In an interview with Sportskeeda Wrestling Senior Editor Bill Apter, Jerry Lawler was asked if it’s time for John Cena to retire. Jerry Lawler shared his thoughts on why he doesn’t think John Cena should retire. Lawler expressed that he doesn’t believe anyone should fully retire, as there are still many things they can do without officially calling it retirement. He added that when he hears someone talk about retiring, it makes him think they’re nearing the end, and he wouldn’t want to use that word for Cena.
“No, I don’t think anybody should ever retire. There’s too many things you can do without using the word retire. When I hear about somebody retiring, I look for them to die pretty soon, so I would never say that he’s gonna retire.”
John Cena also explained why he will retire from in-ring competition in 2025, so we will have to wait and see whether The Leader of Cenation will stay true to his word and end his in-ring career for good, or if he will simply end up coming out of retirement somewhere down the one.
