Since CM Punk’s shocking return to WWE at Survivor Series 2023, fans have been wondering if his wife, former WWE star AJ Lee, would follow suit and make her own return to the company. However, nearly a year has passed, and there has been no sign of the three-time Divas Champion stepping back into the ring.

Lee has remained out of the wrestling spotlight since her retirement in March 2015, but according to former WCW executive Eric Bischoff, the door is still wide open for her return. Speaking on a recent episode of his “83 Weeks” podcast, Bischoff shared his thoughts on the potential for Lee to rejoin WWE, particularly in a storyline alongside her husband, CM Punk.

“I’ll be shocked if we don’t [see AJ Lee return] and probably disappointed because wow, potential story here. I mean you could put six different writers in six different rooms, and they’ll come back with six pretty good stories, maybe some great. So yeah, why not? Are you kidding me?” Bischoff exclaimed.

While the idea of an AJ Lee return excites fans, CM Punk has been more reserved on the matter. Over the past year, Punk has downplayed the idea of his wife returning to in-ring action, making it clear that the decision lies solely with her. Punk has avoided stoking fan expectations, emphasizing that AJ will only return if she feels ready and interested in doing so.

“You cannot possibly push my wife in any direction she does not want to go. I get this question every single time I am interviewed, I do not mind because it makes sense to me, because I am … as big a fan of AJ Lee as your niece or all her legions of fans. You know, she inspired a generation of female wrestlers and I think you see a lot come through NXT now, there are some on the indies and everything like that. So what she did resonated. As a fan, 100%, I would do cartwheels if she came back, but I cannot make her do anything, you know and that’s not the relationship we have. I would never try to force her to do anything I wouldn’t want to do myself.”

Since her retirement, AJ Lee has focused on her writing career. Her autobiography, “Crazy Is My Superpower: How I Triumphed By Breaking Bones, Breaking Hearts, and Breaking the Rules,” became a New York Times Bestseller, showcasing her success outside the ring.

With Bischoff’s recent comments and Punk’s continued presence in WWE, the idea of AJ Lee returning is still alive in fans’ minds. Whether or not Lee will lace up her boots again remains to be seen, but the wrestling world is undoubtedly ready for it.
