Punk has previously opened up about how his deal with WWE came together just days before Survivor Series. In an interview, he revealed that he received a call from Nick Khan in November 2023 to discuss his future after being fired from AEW. After exchanging ideas about his return timeline, the decision was made for Punk to debut at Survivor Series in his hometown of Chicago, although the original plan was for him to reappear at Royal Rumble 2024.
