CM Punk’s return to WWE at Survivor Series: WarGames 2023 had fans buzzing, marking one of the most anticipated comebacks in recent wrestling history. Punk’s unexpected return set the wrestling world alight, with viral clips circulating on social media. Since then, Punk has been in a heated feud with Drew McIntyre, but it seems there’s more to the story behind his WWE return.

Recently, Punk gave fans a rare peek behind the curtain by sharing two exclusive behind-the-scenes images of his WWE contract signing with Triple H. Posted on his Instagram Story, the first photo showed Punk in a hoodie and face mask, with Triple H standing in the background, closing an elevator door. The second image captured the pivotal moment where Punk was signing his WWE contract, notably sporting the same white t-shirt and haircut he had when he made his dramatic return at the end of the premium live event.

Punk has previously opened up about how his deal with WWE came together just days before Survivor Series. In an interview, he revealed that he received a call from Nick Khan in November 2023 to discuss his future after being fired from AEW. After exchanging ideas about his return timeline, the decision was made for Punk to debut at Survivor Series in his hometown of Chicago, although the original plan was for him to reappear at Royal Rumble 2024.

Fans last saw Punk on this week’s episode of WWE Raw, where he vaguely mentioned that he would be absent in the lead-up to Crown Jewel, but teased that he would resume his ongoing feud with Seth Rollins once he returns.
