Bryan Danielson, the current AEW World Champion, has been candid about his health issues as he prepares for the next chapter in his wrestling career. With his full-time wrestling career winding down, Danielson has now revealed that he will need neck surgery in the near future.
Danielson, who won the AEW World Title at AEW All In after putting his career on the line, has stated that he plans to retire from full-time competition when he eventually loses the championship. Speaking with Shawn Garrett of KIRO 7 Seattle, Danielson shared the seriousness of his situation: “The idea is, whenever I lose this title, whether it’s some time down the road or against Jon Moxley, that would be it for me as a full-time wrestler.”
The wrestling legend added, “The reality is, right now, I need neck surgery. That’s coming sooner rather than later. There’s going to become a point where this is untenable for me.” Despite his love for wrestling, Danielson acknowledged the toll the sport has taken on his body, explaining that once he undergoes the necessary neck surgery, his future in the ring remains uncertain.
“Will I ever wrestle again once I lose the title? I don’t know. My heart says yes because I love wrestling, but I’ve put my body through a lot to get to the success I have. At some point, you have to know when to hold ‘em and know when to fold ‘em,” Danielson said.
This isn’t the first time Danielson has faced serious health concerns. He recently shared that he lost feeling in his legs during a match against Kazuchika Okada at AEW Dynamite’s Fifth Anniversary show, further highlighting the risks he’s taken in his storied career.
As fans await Danielson’s next move, the question remains: when will he lose the AEW World Title, and will that moment mark the end of his in-ring legacy?
